Fnatic.CoD4 change

by bidy on April 10th, 2008 at 21:01 CEST

Hey mint, there have been rumours of you taking a break since i33, could you tell us something about it?
Hey, I decided after coming home from our trip to England the i33 tournament that I needed a break of some sort, for a number of reasons. The main reason was probably because I was exhausted after the CDC4 and i33 tournaments. I do a lot of stuff around the cod4 team and I love doing it and would love to do even more but I also have plans on going back to school and I need to decide on how to handle my personal economy going to school rather than having a job. I’m also moving out of this apartment so there are a lot of things on my mind and that I have to do. I decided I would need 2-3 weeks off from gaming to get my head around everything again.

How has the team responded to your decision? What did they say?
I’m not entirely sure, I guess at some level they understand I need to do this. On the other hand they want to keep playing and we have a number of online leagues running so I guess if it were up to them they would want me to stick through it. But I’m a lot better to play with and be around when I don’t have a million things hanging over me not related to the team. And I know they will do a good job without me, these players are in this team for a reason, but of course, together as intended we are better than split apart forced to change the line up now and again.

What will be doing in your free time now?
Only boring stuff, clean my apartment, get all my stuff out of it, sign up for university, watch the boys play via stream, cheer for Liverpool in the CL. And when time permits slowly try to get back into the game again if possible.

Was this break going to end your career in fantic?
I sure hope it doesn’t mean the end. I love fnatic and I love my team and the players in it. I hope I’ll only be missing for as little time as necessary but it’s not just my call to make either but I hope they can find some room for me when I feel I can start playing again and that we can start preparing for the summer season which is looking to be nothing short of amazing for cod4 so I’m taking as little time off as I possibly can. I sure hope it doesn’t mean fnatic is over for me and if I won’t play any more cod for fnatic I hope and think with the passion I have for gaming there might be something in store for me outside of cod, we will just have to wait and see.

Could you tell us what is current state of affairs with the team?
Currently as it stands, right now we're deciding on who to take in to fill our 5th spot, klanne and zsilts will be leaving the team. We're going to prepare for the very hectic summer season

Why did klanne and zsilts chose to leave?
zsilts chose to leave because he has no motivation left to play the game, he has grown tired of it. he says he might be fit for fight again in a month but we don't have the luxury of being able to wait for him so we had to take the decision to let him go. klanne is our choice to let go, we feel he does not meet the requirements we have on the players in our team, he's just not up to par with the rest of us

What made you decide to take on Linqan and how do you expect him to fit into the team?
With the departure of zsilts and us not feeling klanne was the right type of player for us we started looking for a player that had an aggressive playstyle, someone who was swedish and could hold his own. We have seen linqan rip teams up for some time now and we approached him with an offer. We expect him to first get into the team and learn to play with us and then we expect him to be an integral part of our summer LAN season.

What about your role as a writer in fnatic? How has that worked out?
I've just started on it, actually writing an article today so I'm pretty new at it but I like doing it so I think it will be nice. I've written articles before of course

Will we see you casting games or moving towards the organisation side of things?
no I will still be playing cod4 as my main thing, and then I'll do some writing and other stuff for fnatic but I'm not moving into anything major organisation wise

With all this shuffling going on in the team, how hampered will be the teams performance at up coming matches?
Well the shuffling of players is of course never a good thing and yes it’s very rarely of good when it comes to preparation and team play. On the other hand we are not really known to be a strong team online and that’s something we will have to work on up ahead. But if I thought it would be a disaster to leave these very capable players with the matches that were left I wouldn’t be taking time off. I know they will be able to perform if they want to and are focused. My goals with this team how ever has always been set at LAN events and performing well there.

What has been the highlight so far for you in fnatic?
My highlight so far in cod4 has been creating this team and to see the work put in pay off with joining fnatic. My highlight so far in fnatic must be winning the cdc4 event that we had set our eyes on winning from the day it was presented. That gave us the chance to prove our selves and make an impact on the cod4 scene right away. It put us in the driver seat and forced other teams to look at us and try to find a way to beat us. At the i-series event we also played really well but fell short in two overtime games but I still think we performed really well, and even though some people might say we lost our pole position I think we have what it takes to take it back.

The team has been performing consistently for a long time now, do you feel there's anything missing in the lineup now?
Yes, time. I want to be able to put in more time, more effective time. My goal at the moment in gaming is to be able to do it full time. To be able to focus on it as a job because for me I put in a lot of time and it gets to a stage where I’ll probably have to chose to cut back on this or sacrifice something else. Preparing, planning and working to get this team to fnatic has forced me to sacrifice a lot of time that would probably have been good for me to spend else where. But this is what I want to do, so it has been a choice I have made, but it is starting to get increasingly harder to motivate juggling two sides of my life that both requires a lot of time and effort. As for the actual changes to the line up, I want none. These players are top players all of them in different ways and we complement each other brilliantly. That’s the strength of this team and I don’t want to change that at all.

What advantages does the team have with and without mintR in the starting lineup?
Without me I think the team can explore a whole new direction of the team if they would want to, one without a sniper. 5 sprayers has it’s advantages that I think both SK and banging it eurostyle display very well. With me in the line up I think we have a wider spectrum of possibilities, I handle the sniper at the same level as any other out there though I play it very differently from most, that’s something I think we should look at if I am to return to the team, a way to implement my style of sniping into our tactics which haven’t been the case so much right now. But I have no problem with taking down most players with an assault rifle either so we will definitely be looking at a wider range of possibilities with me in the team. But all that is my personal opinion.

Any final words before we part for now?
I want to say a big thank you to fnatic, anne, jay, joe, sam and all the others. And also a big <3 to my boys in the team.
