From the 14th to 17th June 2008, DreamHack Summer 2008 will once again be returning to the Electronic Sports world, hoping to live up to the high expectations of its predecessors.
Since 2004, DreamHack has held the record for the world's largest LAN party and computer festival and this Summer the event will play home to not only the World GameMaster Tournament, but also the ESWC Sweden 2008 qualifier. Gamer's from all across the globe will compete in competitions in games that include Counter-Strike 1.6, WarCraft III, StarCraft, Defence of the Ancients, Counter-Strike: Source, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and Quake III Forever.
The event will be held, as usual, at the Elmia Exhibition Centre (above) in the southern city of Jönköping -- Sweden's ninth most popular city. Our Counter-Strike 1.6 team won't have to travel far to get to the event -- not only because of their Swedish nationality -- but also because they were wildcarded along with five other world-class teams - in the WGT.
As mentioned before, ESWC Sweden 2008 will also be on the menu and Fnatic have been drawn in Group B of the tournament alongside three other Swedish teams, one of which is a mix team, another whom are unknown whilst the last is recognisable from various local events.
Winner's of the WGT CS1.6 tournament will receive 6,400€, whilst the runner's up will earn 2,600€ and the third place finisher taking 1,600€. However, no prize money will be rewarded to the winner(s) of ESWC Sweden but their flight passage and hotel will all be taken care of.
