Sun Yi 'F91' Feng might be the best non Korean Starcraft player at the moment. The 26-year-old is known in the community for his unorthodox builds and places top 3 at almost every event he attends.

Sun Yi joined Fnatic.MSI back in late 2008, when he and his team were announced as the official Starcraft squad. Considered as one of the best, the team has enjoyed great success in the past few months.

fnatic.com sat down with team captain Sun Yi to talk about his recent results, his task as team captain and the Korean superiority in Starcraft.

fnatic.com: You have had a resounding success in the Liquibition latest series, how do you feel about it?

Sun Yi 'F91' Feng: I was in a very good shape when I played liquidbition not to forget that I also had some luck which is why you saw that I won the matches with ease.

However, having watched your performance in the Steel Series Chinese Invitational and the Liquibition series, why is there such a drastic difference?

For the SteelSeries event, Pj is a very very good player and we know each other really well so it’s not a surprise. In the end of the day it’s about who is in a better shape and eventually will be the winner. Hopefully I will be able to have my revenge the next time we play.

Regarding the matches in liquidbition, even though all the opponents of mine were quite skilled but they don’t know me well enough which makes them being too passive and spending a lot of resources in their defence. That alone has allowed me to keep expanding and grab my victory.

Your lost against Infernal could be said to be quite a shock. You´ve been on a kill streak for a while in the Clan Wars.

Infernal is very good and his build against me was exactly the counter for my prepared strategy which is why I wasn’t able to win. I´m looking forward to the future when we will get to meet again in team leagues then I will defeat him for sure.

The FnaticMSI.SC team is small compared to other teams, do you have plans of making it bigger?

There aren’t any plans yet at the moment because my teammates are all very good and we can still spend our time playing in leagues so I don´t think we will have new recruits anytime soon.

So far in the FnaticMSI.SC team, we haven't see Jukebox in action. Is he still around?

Jukebox has been really occupied with his studies recently. I hope he can gets back really soon and practice together with us.

Under your leadership as team captain, the FnaticMSI.SC team has grown very strong in such a short time. What did you do?

I usually practice a lot with my teammates and discuss about strategies. Most importantly, we have to understand each other really well when it comes to weakness and strengths like how LBH is extremely good in ZvP.

Seeing such success from your team, how do you feel about other teams possibly following your strategy?

I believe every team’s leader has their own way and I use the most suitable one for Fnatic. I´m not sure what is going to happen if they use mine but I hope everyone will get better to make leagues more competitive.

Your team is one of the smallest yet very successful. What do you have to say about it?

Even though we have a very small squad all of our players are S class foreigners. This is why we can always defeat the other teams.

What makes your team special from the other top ranked teams?

I think our teammates are much closer to each other compared to the other teams. We are like one big family. We interact a lot personally so we know each other really well.
With FnaticMSI.SC growing in strength, is it possible to take on the Korean teams?

Of course it’s possible. I believe we can even win a lot of semi pro teams. I am very confident in this. I think you will see us playing top amateur Korean teams really soon.

Currently, most Starcraft players consider Koreans the best, do you think China players can match against them or even outdo some?

It’ll be very hard for Chinese to catch up with Koreans because they have very good tournaments and organizers. They have new comers every year and this is something China isn’t able to compare with.

When Starcraft 2 comes out, would you be retiring Starcraft 1 for Starcraft 2, play Starcraft 1 only or play both?

I’m pretty sure I will give up Starcraft and play SC2 because I’ve tried SC2 before and it was very nice, the new units make the game much more entertaining. Hopefully it will come out as soon as possible.

Having been a pro-gamer for many years, do you have planned for the future at time of retirement?

I don’t have any retiring plans yet because my passion for SC is stronger than ever. It has become a part of my life that makes it impossible for me to leave it.

What did your friends and family thought initially and now about your pro-gaming career?

In the beginning they were really against it until they saw me getting my first champion and standing on stage. After that they started to become supportive and have always been there for me ever since.

Besides training, what else do you do in your daily life?

I usually go for exercises like playing basketball or table tennis after practice sessions. Sometimes I even go to KTV and sing together with my friends.

Are you currently seeking / in a relationship?

I’m already married. (smiles)

With a large disdain on e-sports by the elder generations in general, can you tell us your opinion about it?

It’s very sure that a lot of them don’t know E sports enough yet but I hope they will try to understand it more before voicing out their personal opinions.

Assuming when you have child, would you support him/her for e-sports?

I will definitely support him; hopefully he will be more successful than me.

The World Cyber Games (WCG) will be coming soon, are you confident that you can be China's representative for WCG Starcraft?

I have 100% confidence in this but all the Chinese players are extremely good so I can’t say that I will qualify for sure. Nevertheless, I will still try my very best and improve my game play so it makes me much more superior compare to the other players during the tourney.

Before we end, do you have anything to say to your fans and the rest of the world?

I would like to thank all my fans for their support all these times. I will repay them with more entertaining games in the future. Lastly, I want to thank my sponsors again for their support in my progaming career. I love you MSI, SteelSeries, CMStorm and Best poker. I LOVE FNATIC!
