If you could please introduce yourself and your team.
Hi, I'm Alex AKA Sodah, I play the Rogue-Mage-Priest as the Priest for team compLexity. I used to play druid but since Wrath of the Lich King I decided to switch over to a new healer.
You are one of the few teams that did get invited, how does it feel knowing you were chosen to compete at this MLG stop?
It's pretty cool. We haven't been doing well lately, but we did just barely good enough at Columbus for the invite, not to mention we have some high expectations recruiting the great rogue hero Reckful. It's pretty crazy how many amazing teams are going to be at this MLG event, it's pretty much the top teams in the world, and I'm excited for it.
What are your expectations looking at the team list?
I expect we'll do quite well. We've fought all of the american teams many times and are confident we can take a series on them, but it will still be difficult. HoN and x6tence we have little practice against, and I have great respect for both teams. I expect they will be big challenges. HoN in particular has a unique and effective playstyle from what I've seen and from fighting them at the Germany ESL finals, so I expect them to be the toughest team there.
You mentioned your teams new pickup, what sort of an impact will he have on the team, and will you be ready to compete as a team with such little time for practice?
Reckful is a very intelligent and careful player with a very clean playstyle. He's easy to mesh with, and we've fought TSG, EMG, SK-US, and Fnatic with him in the past month. He's great with working out strategies and has taken on a creative role for the team, encouraging us to try new specs and different playstyles. That being said, there was some initial rough spots when we first began playing together as Venruki and Reckful had entirely different mindsets going into RMP mirrors. We've since patched that up and are quite ready to compete =)
Does that mean you will do some multi-classing at the event?
That information is entirely confidential.
You have been under the coL banner for quite some time now, how does it feel to play for complexity?
They're great guys, and very patient with us. It's pretty neat knowing your sponsor won't dump you just for losing a tournament, and I'm proud to be a player wearing their tag. They're definitely the best US sponsor, and It's a privilege to be sure.
MLG is using the most recent patch, so right now that is 3.2; how much do you feel this patch has changed the way teams now stack up against each other?
Good question. In my own opinion, the changes are subtle and not as game-changing as some people say. With resilience a better stat and Shamans and Priests getting physical damage reduction on crits, it means cleaves will have a bit of a tougher time blowing up clothies. The patch slowed down arenas a tiny bit, but it's almost unnoticable. I actually have enjoyed that patch and our team has done better since its release, possibly because it fits our playstyle better, I'm not sure. What I'm most sure of, however, is that Rogue-Lock-Shaman teams will be doing even better than they were before, which is a little scary.
Are you hoping that there might be a new patch soon? If so, what sort of changes would you like to see?
Back when I played Druid I was begging for patches to fix all of the stupid things about my class. Nowadays as a Priest, I honestly feel borderline overpowered. I don't really see a need for a new patch for arenas, as I find the game enjoyable and every team relatively beatable. If there were one thing I would like to see changed, it would be Destruction lock damage reduced, specifically on conflagrate. And before you go and tell me "why aren't you dispelling immolate?" try fighting Yog who spell locks you before you can stop his conflags.
As a Priest who do you feel is the best Priest in the world?
It's really hard to see when a Priest is shining for his team. Mages and Rogues always take the spotlight. Similarly, I haven't had the opportunity to watch European or Korean priests play very much, as I find PvP movies super boring. I'm going to have to say Innerfire's priest, Realz, or Numberone from HoN are in my top 3. I can't make a judgment for myself, I'd rather let others do that.
How much of an impact would you say being able to multi-class has on a team’s overall performance?
It's a touchy strategy. Some teams have been able to pull it off, others haven't. It hurt Pandemic, SK-EU, and us. The one team it's helped is x6tence, who picked exactly the right classes to play. They're very smart at theorycrafting the perfect cleaves, and thus have been the only successful multiclassing team. But overall, I'd say it’s not necessary at all to be able to multiclass.
Do you plan on being a professional gamer forever? Like making a career out of it? Or is this just more of a hobby?
Oh it's mostly a hobby. I'm going to keep doing it as long as I really enjoy it. I play so many games and get so competitive with them that it's a passion of mine, but realistically it's far too difficult to make a living off of.
What do you want to do for a living then?
I'm getting a degree in political science, I'm planning to possibly go to law school, and I'm seeking internships at the moment. We will see what happens from there =)
Good luck with that, do you have any last words to your fans, any shoutouts?
Fo sho, I wanna thank Creative, Puretrak, Fame networks, and G8 Brand for backing compLexity, and thanks to everyone who tunes in to tournament streams and keeps the interest going for WoW tourneys!
