Our newly arrived Bjorn 'threat' Pers sits on the interview chair in what is his first chat as a full-rights FnaticMSI member. What will Cologne bring for him this month, what will the 2010 Fnatic experience equally have prepared for the newly arrived Swede, but more importantly, is he bigger and better than Basshunter, all exclusively in the interview on the next page.

Always has reasons to smile

You've just joined the rows of FnaticMSI, is this the late Christmas present you were waiting for?

Yes of course! It's a big honour to join FnaticMSI, the best team in the world at moment. Best Christmas present ever! *smiles*

Glad to hear that! I don't know how you're used to in Sweden, but where I'm from we usually gather the entire family and just eat and drink a lot throughout the winter celebrations. How have you been spending your Christmas and New Years' eve?

It's pretty much the same here. I've spent Christmas with my family eating lots and lots of traditional Christmas food and of course, giving each other presents. I still was a bit jet-lagged from China during Christmas though, so I fell asleep at like 20pm, which sucked. On New Years' eve I was with my friends just drinking and having a good time, nothing more. I think some people have made New Years' a bigger deal than it actually is and having too high expectations about it. For me it's not that big of a deal.

Oh.. He knows what's coming!

You're now a full-time Fnatic and you've had lots of people following you in time; yet you're surely the one person that knows most about threat, the player. Takes us a bit through your career evolution so far.

Oh this will be a long one. *smiles*

Well, I think I had my breakthrough during the beginning of 2007, when I joined Begrip. Before that I had played with lots of semi-good teams in Sweden.

I remember JAEGARN messaging me, talking about a new Begrip team he wanted to set up. We both wanted to give face a change, who was a pretty unkown player at the time. Tentpole had just dropped fnatic and was intrested in playing with us and we also knew that our friend, azl, was interested as well. So there was my first "good" line-up. We did a great performance during the SHG Open 2007, beating topteams like mYm and fnatic. *smiles*

Not long after NiP took both Tentpole and face to join their ranks and we were left with only 3 players. Blomstar and niko joined but the results were not that impressive and it all made us let both azl and blomstar go. Yet again we were left with only 3 players, med niko and JAEGARN. I had just played a Swedish LAN called RZ with a player, who at the time was not that famous and had never played in a top team. That player was GeT_RiGhT. So we let GT join and we also brought niko's old pal get! to the team. That team lasted for about 6 months and we had some awesome times like when we qualified for the ESWC-finals, beating NiP with face and Tentpole in the deciding match.

After awhile GeT_RiGhT followed face's footsteps by joining NiP. We tried to replace him with both Rwa and later Gux, but it didn't work out, which eventually lead to the team's death at the end of 2007. I took a break for 1-2 months and later joined "playzone" witht the players danne, QP, kHRYSTAL and Stranger. During my time in playzone I worked a full-time job which made it hard to be as focused as before and it never really got that serious. After DH08 I got contacted by FYRR73 and GeT_RiGhT who were interested in building a new team. I brought with me QP and kHRYSTAL from playzone and LANKLAN/Giants was born. We had an awesome start, winning DH Sklfta beating both Blank and SK, and won almost every match during the EM online qualifier, beating teams like fnatic, again *smiles*

During the beginning of 09 GeT_RiGhT got an offer from fnatic which he couldn't refuse, and that left us short of players. At the same time Gux also joined fnatic and they were in the same spot as us. I talked with niko and we decided to fuse our teams together, we created a new team consisting of me, niko, face, FYRR73 and kHRYSTAL. But we didn't play that many events together, although we managed to qualify for WCG, beating SK in the final, after a super-intense 3 maps plus overtime game. ONCE AGAIN another top team took players from my team, this time SK, who recruited both face and kHRYSTAL. This made us have to get 2 players fast, since WCG was approaching. We brought in zneel, who was freshly kicked from SK, and SpawN to the team. After having too little time to prepare for WCG, we lost to AGAiN with 1-2 on maps, in the first play-offs match. This made us get a disappointing 9-16th place overall. Soon after WCG was DreamHack were we had another poor perfomance, which lead to me having to step aside.

I had been asked earlier by fnatic, if I wanted to attend WEM with them, and now that I didn't have a team, I had no reason to say no. We won the whole tournament and no long after I got home I was asked if I wanted to join full-time. An offer I just couldn't say no to!

And so, it all begins!

Now that we've heard about threat, what can you tell us about Bjorn, the person behind the player?

Well, I'm a 21 years old guy, living in a suburb of Stockholm with my mom. Outside of playing I like to hang out with friends or to work out. My family and friends tend to say that I almost always look happy which I guess is true. Though to be honest, I can sometimes be a bit stubborn, I just hate admitting I'm wrong! I would also say I'm a bit lazy, often postponing things, just saying I will do them "later". Like during my time in school I always did everything at the last second, studying for exams only the day before it and so on.

Even though I have all these terrible habits, I would still say I'm a pretty normal nice guy. *smiles*

Would have been unexpected to say otherwise, but getting back to the gaming activity, you've contributed highly to an end-of-year team effort in China with FnaticMSI. How did you feel when you lifted the trophy above your head? Was that the most memorable moment with the boys during the entire two weeks on Asian soil?

Yes by far! It was my first major victory so it just was so awesome. Just can't describe the feeling you get when you win, it's so great.

Bjorn getting some TLC in China.

There's already a good chemistry going on amongst you guys and that could be noticed in China. GuX was more of a fragger meanwhile you offer more stability and fresh tactics to the team game. Will you nurture a future role of implementing tactics in the team for 2010?

Yes I will bring some new tactics and ideas to FnaticMSI's play style for 2010. Even though they won almost everthing in 2009, I believe anything can be made better.

And if we're on that subject, can it get any better for FnaticMSI this year? I mean 6 major titles for 2009 already leaves our team in the Counter-Strike and overall competitive esports history.

Winning 7 major titles! *smiles*

It's him, the acting smart, always smiling, perfectionist!

It just seems like you've got no time to breed though, as the European EM Finals are up in Cologne soon. You're placed in group B alongside mTw, oXmoze or Alternate. What do you think about these names in the group? Which one do you fear most?

It's a tough group for sure and we really need to bring our a-game if we want to proceed to the finals. I can't say we fear any team, but I think that mTw will be the hardest opponent. Another team I don't look forward to playing against is oXmoze. I just hate the play style French teams have, they play kind of slow compared with other European teams.

A couple of quick calculations leave one thinking that you could meet up with your former team, H2K, early in the play-offs. Wouldn't that be an interesting match? *smiles*

To play against your former teammates is always something special and interesting. Though I don't think it will affect my own game, it will just be more emotions involved when we win/loose.

You can cut out the second part after the bracket, lets be positive. Are you looking forward to winning the event or you'd still be pleased with a 2nd qualifying spot to the global finals, given that the December training schedules have probably been looser?

I would say after FnaticMSI's perfomance during 2009, anything else but 1st place is a dissapointment.

What are you guys going to do to work on that tricky train map?

Just come up with new strategies and play it a lot during practices. We just need more time I guess.

Reunited once again!

Since you've joined the rows of FnaticMSI you've had the opportunity of trying out the MSI notebooks. What's your take on them and how have they helped you with your in-game preparation?

Well there's a huge advantage to be able to play almost anywhere and at any time, using a product which offers top-notch quality. To be able to prepare before any game, anywhere we are, it's simply priceless.

Well concluding on a more funny, Jonas aka Basshunter just joined the Celebrity Big Brother house in UK, meanwhile you're the newcomer amongst FnaticMSI.CS's rows; which one news item is bigger and more important for Sweden? *smiles*

You're kidding me right? Me joining FnaticMSI of course?! *smiles* Last but not least I'd like to say thanks to our beloved sponsors MSI, SteelSeries, Bigfoot Networks, UGAME and SLAPPA.
