After a very successful 2009 Counterstrike season and a great start into 2010 with a 2nd place finish at the ESL Intel Extreme Masters European Finals we caught up with Christopher 'GeT_RiGhT' Alesund to ask him a few questions.
Christopher talks about GuX leaving the team and how it affected him, as well as the new addition of ThreaT. He also talks about moving into 2010, his success at such an early age compared to other FnaticMSI players, his most memorable moment of 2009 and more!
This was your first event of 2010 and you placed 2nd. Are you disappointed you didn't come first after a stellar 2009 year, are you happy with consistently placing in the top 2, what are you feeling right now?
I'm not really feelin' special right now, it's of course a disappointment to lose a final after a bad mistake that we made on the most important round on tuscan. But I guess, after seeing gob b playing as he did against us, it just shows us that we weren't supposed to win that game. But, last year we came 4th at this tournament. I'm lookin' forward to Global Finals now!
Do you have any regrets or moments you wish you could take back from the IEM event?
Not really, maybe some bad movements in game here and there.
What are your expectations for this year?
That we can make an even better year than 2009 :)
You and Threat are back together again, how does it feel to have an old teammate to play with again?
It feels great to have my old friend on the same team again, I have always want to play with him in any team that I have been playing for. So for me it feels great to have him back :)
You are very young, and quite successful already, did you ever think that your CS career would become what it is today?
Not really, I think after the SK-blank thing, my little "career" was ended over there.. But I guess god had something else planed for me :)
Was it sad seeing your former teammate Gux leave seeing as you two joined FnaticMSI at the same time?
It's always sad to see a teammate leave a team for different reasons, Rasmus is a nice guy and a really skilled player.. I guess we will be missing some part of his awesome skills this year. But on the same hand we will see more of Bjorn and the rest of the team this year :) I just hope our fans haven't lost faith in us!
When there is a lot of pressure on you to place well in an event such as this, do you get nervous at all before or during games?
Of course I get nervous, but after awhile it goes away. You are so focused on the game, you don't think about it that much.
Could you give us a little insight into what goes through your head when you are in any sort of clutch situation?
I'd try to think about where the enemies are and what I can do differently to what they are thinking.. Like trying to get into their minds and think like "he will not come here" or something.
What was your most memorable moment of 2009?
Winning IEM: Global Finals, coming in with so little practice with two new players (me and Gux) and winning such a big tournament back then with all the best teams attending. It was a great feeling! There are more moments I could say but I think this is the biggest one in my head right now!
Could you give the fans a little insight into how your daily routine is leading up to an important event?
It depends on how much we are focusing on that tournament, of course we want to play as much we want to. We start around 2 weeks before a tournament, play as much as we can online then end up with a small bootcamp at my parents house (Thanks mom and dad!) around 2-3 days before we are supposed to fly from Sweden to X country :)
What is the next event we are going to see you at? Any predictions on how you will perform as a team?
I think the next one is CeBit in March (Extreme Masters Global Finals), Im aiming for the gold as we are the champions from last year!
What do you think made FnaticMSI a winning team in 2009?
Two new players, new motivation and winning faces!
Which team do you enjoy playing against more than all others and why?
I guess it´s mTw, always feels good to win against them!
How much do you think Threat will influence the team dynamic and style of play? You two were obviously teammates prior to this, do you think there will be any major changes in the way FnaticMSI.CS operates?
Lets just wait and see :)
Any last words for your fans?
I want to say thanks to the loyal fans of FnaticMSI, our awesome webcrew, the organization itself with Sam and Anne on the top of the cream! The people I love, the people I care about and the people who love me.. I pray that this year will be even better than 09! Oh and our awesome sponsors (MSI our title sponsor, SteelSeries, Bigfoot Networks, SLAPPA & UGAME) who make our trips much easier! peace!
