With valencia left behind I figured it would be a good idea to write a blog. As you might know(or not know) I got knocked out in the second groupstage of Dreamhack Valencia. DH: Valencia went pretty smooth. I had a nice flight, good hotel(nightend as roommate) and I slept pretty well.
The first groupstage went decent, I had to play LolvsxD, Exodus and Vortix, in that order. Vortix being the strongest in our group would probably be the hardest match, but not the most important one. LolvsxD is an unknown spanish zerg player, but he performs very well on ladder and is an opponent that can not be underestimated. Game 1 against him I lost when trying to do an immortal all-in off of 2 bases, this left me flabbergasted because in practice I crushed everyone with it. I was a bit unsure what to do in the next games, but I had to make a plan so I went for quick 3 base into 10 gate. I didn't practice this build much, but it got the job done. I won game 2 and game 3 I did a 3 base timing attack with colossus and blink stalkers to seal the deal. At this point I was pretty sure I would pass my group, because exodus didn't look very strong so I was almost a guaranteed #2. Everything went as expected I won 2-0 vs exodus and lost 2-0 versus Vortix. The games against him were a complete failure. Missrallying immortals, getting supplyblocked, losing chunks of my army because of bad pathing. All together a horrible experience. Even though I lost 2-0 I still got 2nd, because vortix beat both lolvsxD and exodus .
The 2nd groupstage was quite a bit harder. I got in the group with moon, forgg and Bling. PvP being my best match-up I felt pretty confident against bling, however I wasn't very confident playing against Moon or forgg.
My first series was against moon. On daybreak he openened up with roach drops, I scouted it and reacted accordingly getting blink and more immortals. I held pretty wel, had no losses and killed about 5 full overlords. Then I made a big mistake with my control groups, leaving no units at my third. He went in for a double pronged attack. I cleared all the roachen in my main, but got my third killed and lost a handful of probes on top of that. I decided to counter attack while rebuilding a third and taking a fourth. The counter-attack worked really well. I killed his 5th, his 4th and his 3th leaving him on only 2 bases against my 4 bases. I didn't build a stargate so dealing with broodlord/infestor would be kinda hard. He turtled and took his bases back, and after a while he pushed with infestor/broodlord and I simply died.
The second game went well for me, at least in the early game. I proxied 1 gate on his natural and got really far ahead, I decided to follow it up with an immortal all-in, because I was far ahead. Sadly he scouted it and reacted perfectly: Stalling with lings, getting crawlers and infestors. After he hit perfect fungals on my army I was left with only one option which was tapping out.
The second series against ForGG is best described as a complete rape. Both games didn't last longer than 10 minutes and both games ended with me losing my whole army to his bio force.
At this point I was out of the tournament, but that didn't mean that I would just throw the series versus Bling. If Bling would win against me he would be trough, but there was the possibility that Moon would be out then, if he would lose vs Forgg. Game 1 went pretty well for me, I opened up phoenix and he opened with blink stalker+ observer. He expand a bit greedy and I punished it with an immortal/phoenix/gateway push killing his army and his nexus. The second game he went blink again, I defended close to perfect, but then for some weird reason decided to go blink myself and do a 6 gate all in with blink stalkers. This didn't work at all which tied up the series. Final game was on metropolis, he went for blink stalkers once again and I got ahead just like in game 2. From that point on I just kept on getting further ahead and the final engagement was decided heavily into my favour!
Looking back I feel a bit sad that I didn't manage to take 1 map from the korean players. My goal was to get ro16 again just like at dreamhack summer and get some points for the Dreamhack Winter Qualification.
Since Dreamhack Valencia I started practicing a lot more. I used to play around 5 hours everyday, but now its around 8 hours everyday. I feel like I am improving a lot quicker. A thing that helped me to play 8 hours everyday is streaming. When you are streaming you are kinda forced to play. You can't let your viewers watch you browse the internet.
If you want me you can support my by following me on twitter or watching my stream!
