It's time for another AMA (Ask Me Anything) series from Fnatic. This one will feature our Dota 2 team, who went with a fantastic 20-4 record over the past few weeks. It's your chance to ask Era, H4nn1, Fly, Trixi and N0tail anything you like.
You can submit your questions right here, below this announcement, or in the official Reddit thread. The guys will do their best to answer as many questions as possible. Their answers will be presented in text-based format early next week. Deadline for submitting your questions is February 28th. They will also pick the best question out of them all (submitted to Fnatic.com) and award the winner with SteelSeries Fnatic QcK+ mousepad!
I attended more than 70 tournaments, 90% of them were international ones. While I was on it, I managed to take more than 150 000 photos, compose 150+ interviews, 200+ articles, 7 000+ news items.
I worked for all major e-sport portals in Russia and...
How do you feel about previous HoN players appearing in most of the top dominating EU and US team? Do you feel that coming from HoN gives you guys and the other ex HoN pros a different perspective on the game? Maybe different tactics or attitude?
If I found out a good strat/tactic which I think could see some uses, should I bother mailing you? do you look at such mails? If so, where should I mail my idea?
A few questions on the topic of "homework" / studying what the other top teams do:
1) How much time per week do you guys put into doing your homework on other teams?
2) How does the time you put into studying other teams compare to the time you spend playing scrims?
3) Do you also study what the Chinese / SEA teams do or are you mostly focused on EU/US?
4) Do you think you do more / less than other teams in the EU/US scene?
5) How much do you think studying other teams influences the draft and how big is the impact of being well prepared?
This is a question aimed at each of you individually, what was it about your role in the team (support, Carry, hardlane etc) that initially attracted to you. This could be getting micro skills from previous games to mean you love those Jungling hero's with creeps, Or do you prefer playing on your own/setting up kills for others.
It is common knowledge that drafting meta picks often stems from an influence of the Eastern/Chinese scene. Why is it that Western/US/EU teams do not innovate and create their own meta? Are you guys saving special drafts for TI3?
A while ago H4nn1 stated in an interview that he mutes while drafting, but lately we have seen fly doing the drafts. Did you guys switch that role again or are you guys drafting together?
PS: you guys have been playing awesome dota lately and its lovely too watch! Thumbs up for my favorite team <3
How often you practise .. can you make some live stream often plss :) I see some of your videos and i like the way you play so .. GL and i want to see you guys on every tournament on DOTA 2 :) ...
Sorry about my english .. if something is typet wrong :P !!
I was wondering about how competitve players in dota-like games, and especially Dota 2 configure their input devices, and I'm mostly wondering about mice. Seeing how you're some of the top players of Dota 2, I'd like to know about your habits. What DPI do you guys use, what windows settings (Mouse settings -> Pointer Speed and Enhance pointer precision) and at which resolution. Do you prefer acceleration on or off and why? Finally, what grip do you find preferable for such games?
i have a question to Fnatic.Era. I want to know where he is from coz his real name is an albanian name and i just want to know if he has something to do with albanians
I want to start off by saying that it has been incredible to see a team, that was bad mouthed so much at the transition, to now preform at absolute top level of western DotA . Usually I ask silly and different questions in threads like these, because I feel , that the same questions are repeated endlessly, and we don't get to know the players through the generic questions. However I will venture into asking more serious ones for this as well.
* Favorite word (decide yourselves what this question mean)?
* Cheeseburger or hamburger?
* Fart jokes or silly ascents?
* How much fun on a scale (pick one) to look back at all the HoN-trash comments at this point?
Now on the slightly more serious note.
* A lot of you have been team mates for a very long time (in an eSports genre that generally is very volatile) , which factors to you contribute the stability your team has achieved that so many others lack?
* If it isn't giving too much away, is there any hero that you want to find a place for, but just quite can't seem to fit in yet? If that is too much, can you confirm having something awesome in store for eventual use (personally holding out for some sick Kunkka plays)?
* 2013 has come, and there has been talk here and there of moving into team houses for various teams, will this be something you want to, do you find it unnecessary or is it just not possible at this time?
I apologize for the lengthy post, and any question answered is much appreciated. Lastly, I just want to thank you all for showing some excellent DotA, it is a pleasure to follow your games in the different leagues, and I look forward to see your performance at upcoming lans.
To all: What are your plans towards TI3 in the following months? Assuming fnatic gets an invite, how much time would you be able to put into a bootcamp etc? What are the most critical things to improve on in your opinions to win against teams like IG or LGD ?
After the transition do Dota 2 you had a rough time getting in to the competitive scene, so my question is how was the mentality during this? Did you always believe that today would come or was it hard keeping the motivation up with bad results?
With the performance you guys have had in the past few weeks, I think many would agree that you are the best team in Europe right now. My question to you guys is, how would you deal with the SEA/China teams should you get the chance to play against them because according to many and not just me, they're on a whole different level right now, especially iG,, LGD, DK and Orange and how much do you guys practice? Additionally, how do you juggle between your personal lives and professional gaming?
I played lots of HoN before and kept up with the games you played since you were one of the best solo mid heroes at the time.
When I switched to DotA 2 and caught up with the professional scene, I was pretty surprised that you switched to support.
Was this change due to the team positions working out better?
Have you thought about playing solo mid in scrims or is there something other than team positions that make the position unappealing?
In any case, it's a joy to watch you guys play. Good luck in future tournaments!
1.) When you practice what is your ratio of solo MM practice to scrim practice as a team?
2.) What ratio of time do you spend experimenting with new line ups and strategies as a team as opposed to practicing tried and true line ups?
3.) What individually do you each find you work the hardest on to improve your play individually?
4.) Do you go into each draft with a specific strategy in mind based on the team you are playing against or do you draft entirely reactively?
Due to budget cuts, Valve can't offer a cash prize for TI3. Instead, they leave it up to you guys to come up with the grand prize. What would you make it and why?
How many hours have you played dota 2 on steam? Do you think it took you guys long(like a year?) to get used to dota 2 instead of HoN. Out of dota 1, 2 and HoN which is "your game"? Is it worth buying the QcK+ mousepad? Thinking of buying one and I assume you use them yourself.
to whoever feels like answering :
Q1 - Is there something you would like to change in the way the game is played right now?
Q2 - Do you think there are sill undiscovered strategies and styles of play.
Q3 - Can you describe how you imagine the game to be played, one year from now.
@Fly: Are there any big differences in the drafting in Dota 2 compared to HoN? If any, what?
@All: Are you still in contact with NoVa_?
@Trixi: How could we improve the Finnish Dota 2-scene?
-What do you feel was the most difficult to transition between HoN and DotA?
-With laguage barrier being the reason for EE getting kicked from NTH, how do you guys overcome that gap?
-Do you ever scrim vs teams in the Chinese scene?
-if yes, are you able to compete with them (because it appears to be a lot different than the NA EU scene)?
-if no, do you guys feel confident facing them when TI3 comes around?
-Or will it be another Chinese domination
-Lastly, WHERE IS YOUR PENNANT!!!!!!!?
- How do you structure your pratice as in teamplay?
- Which advice would you give (to low level teams) to perform better?
- How many heroes should reasonable player be confortable with?
- Shoud a player be able to play with different types of heroes or sitck to the same, e.g. only plays with support or carry..
Was switching from HoN to Dota 2 hard? (Especially n0tail, who I think had no Dota background) Or was it easier because some factors of the game were extremely similar?
What is it like being captain of Fnatic.EU? I know Liquid.Fluff posts blogs monthly about what it's like for him to be captain of Liquid, but what's it like for you? I'm sure it's different since you're a European team. Some insight would be really neat, thanks a lot!
Alot of people would like the answer to this, I'm sure. The 'pro scene' is notoriously hard to break into, even as a great palyer. You constantly see the same names everywhere, names that cycle between teams over time. Why is this and what can good players do to try to break into the pro scene?
Having played together as long as you have (at least 3 of you) have there been any bumps in the road where you were thinking you wouldn't make it?
For instance when you changed from Hon to Dota2.
1)Will we see more casting by h4nni?
He did an amazing job as a cocaster with tobi.
2) You play a lot of different lineups.
How many games do you need to feel comfortable with a new strat. At which point do you prefer a surprise pick over a common, more "metagame-ish" pick
Congratulations on your recent form, it's a delight to watch you play.
Now my question:
In the distant future, when Dota 2 is fully out aka when techies(the destroyer of worlds) is out. Would you ever consider using him in a game and how would you use him(combos, strats, etc. etc.)?
Be creative with your answer! :D
@h4nn1 how does it feel to be back among the top teams in dota/2? I know you initially did not want to change from HoN, but could you please elaborate the reasoning behind that hesitation.
Warning!
