Fnatic DXRacer Review

As soon as I received my DXRacer chair it was clear that the package was close to bulletproof. They really do a good job ensuring that nothing is damaged during transit. The overall box was extremely heavy and did require two people to carry it to my room. Inside the huge package, everything was protected by foam material and wrapped in foil. Along with the chair, DXRacer delivers two pillows for your head and for your back. I expected a complicated instruction set, and the requirement of an entire tool box. But when I unpacked everything, I realised that most of the parts were either already pre-assembled or didn’t require much work. So I only had to screw in 10 screws and click in the wheels as well as the hydraulic pipe.
The required screwdriver came along with the chair. So there are no more tools required. The instruction were easy to understand, and if you don’t have two left hands, it is a matter of minutes to set everything up. It is rather heavy so you will probably need some help carrying it to your desk.
Already during the assembly I noticed that DXRacer uses a lot of metal. There are only a few plastic parts and those are quite solid as well. If you shake the chair, it gives you a new sense of security as nothing feels flimsy as most plastic parts do and you can’t hear anything wiggling around. The seat shell is made of artificial leather, the workmanship is flawless. If you take a look under the chair, you see that you are not sitting on a metal plate, as you will on a low budget chair, but on a real comfortable pad. When sitting on the chair, you feel safe, as nothing is moving and even if you tilt the backrest, you don’t get the feeling it will break of, nor that you will fall over any time soon, even when you go back as far as the chair can go. Adjusting the height of the chair and the armrest is extremely easy and can be set at any height you'd like. Same can be said for the rocking feature and the backrest.
The Mechanism for tilting the backrest is only on one side of the chair and same is the lock for the rocking feature. If both is locked and you really push back on the backrest, you notice that it is slightly bending into one direction, but barely noticeable.
When sitting for the first time on the chair, I instantly fell in love with it. First off, sitting in this chair is extremely comfortable. The cushions are soft and you don’t feel the frame on which you are sitting. The Racing design adds to the overall comfy feeling of the chair, without making you feel cramped and squeezed. At the same time you have enough space to move around a bit. As already pointed out, the chair comes along with two pillows. The first one is for your head and neck. It is simply slipped on over the top of the backrest. I really like this pillow, if you are sitting in a very straight position you will barely notice it. But as soon as you tilt the backrest down a bit, you can rest your head on it. So it is there when you need it, but does not annoy you when you don’t need it.
The second pillow is for your back. With the rubber strings you can fix it on the backrest. I have to say that if you are sitting in an upright position, it is really nice for your back. It supports your back and prevents you from sitting with your back arches. Yet, if you want to lay down a bit, it becomes a bit uncomfortable with the pillow in your back. So I only use it when I am working on the computer, sitting in an upright position.
Regarding the fabric I have to admit that I was afraid it would be too much like leather. In the winter cold and during the summer warm I was afraid it would be uncomfortable. But I was proven wrong. In Germany it is really hot these days, but the artificial leather doesn't stick to you even in the immense heat. The feeling of the material is really nice and the two holes in the backrest where in racing chairs the seat belts go through, allows a nice air flow to your neck.
The adjustable arm rests make the chair even more comfortable. You can rest your arms on them while you write, and just move them down if you don’t need them or in my case, when I want to move the chair under my table at night. The rests themselves are made of a quite soft material but don't let that fool you, they are solid. They will support you use them to stand up with.
The adjustable backrest is one of the best features of the chair. When you want to do some serious stuff on the computer, you can sit straight and do your work, but when you want to chill out a bit, you simply have to flip a lever and you can lean back. It is almost infinitely adjustable until you're literally laying down on the chair. Which proves really nice for LAN parties or long working hours.
In addition to that, the chair has a rocking feature. It can be locked or unlocked and the resistance can be adjusted with a small wheel below the chair. Even at the lowest resistance, it does not become unstable and you feel like you're floating around. I am not very heavy, but I can still rock the chair without much effort. I like this particular feature, because I like to move on my chair. I don’t want to be fixed in one position and unable to move. Together with the backrest, you will always find a comfortable position on this chair, no matter if you are working, watching a movie or simply chilling out.
The 250 Euro price tag is quite a number. But you definitely get your moneys worth. You get one of the best and most comfortable chairs in that prize category. Due to the solid manufacturing and the combination of metal and artificial leather, you can assume that it is an investment for more than 2 years. The DXRacer comes with a lot of useful features such as the two extra pillows and a two year warranty. It is definitely worth the money as it is very difficult to find any good chair for much less.
