trace is one of the most accomplished players out there, having played for teams like eSrael, SK-Gaming and mTw, just to name a few. He will now be the 3rd Danish player in our team, following additions of Friis and Karrigan to what had once been a pure Swedish line-up. But since this chemestry has proven to be quite a successful, the future seems brighter than ever for the team and Martin being part of it.
GameGune will be the debut for Martin as part of FnaticRC and we hope it will once again will become a success, and Fnatic's winning streak will continue. We've been victorious at Copenhagen Games, Fnatic Champions League and just last week the team won both CS tournaments at Dreamhack Summer.
We've catched up with Martin and asked him a few questions regarding the transfer:
Well, first of all, welcome to Fnatic, what are your first impressions about being in this team?
trace: Thank you very much! Well first of all I am looking forward to start playing, I especially wanted to play with friis and karrigan for a long time. Joining possibly the best team in the world right now, adds a lot of pressure but I am just happy that I got the chance to play for fnaticRC
How did your past team, eSrael, take your departure? Was it a hard decision for you personally?
It is always hard to announce your departure to your team, and I always feel bad leaving a team, even though everybody knows that you have to make the obvious choice. Of course they understood and accepted my decision, but it doesn't makes it less irritating. However this time it was not as hard because we have not been practicing for quite a while because all of the players have been really busy outside the game, so in that way it was kind of a relief.
There have been rumors that you and Friis are not playing together, can you comment on that?
Haha yea that is some funny rumors. It is true that we had our differences when we were small children at the age of 17, which is roughly 5 years ago. We have not had trouble for as long as I can remember and I enjoy playing with him, so it is kind of strange these rumors are still floating around the community
There is this constant "CS is dying" type of hysteria going around, does it have any affect on your motivation to play the game?
To be honest I don't give it any thought. I enjoy playing the game and go to tournaments, even though there are not as many as there used to be. So no not really, I just try to do my best for as long as CS lives.
Is there anything you're looking forward to winning/achieving in particular with your new team?
Nothing in particular. Obviously I want to win all the tournaments possible, doesn't matter which ones. And then being a part of the best team in the world would be kind of awesome I think, and that is something I would like to try.
With your arrival to the team, it's actually 3 Danes and 2 Swedes. So technically you're more of a Danish team right now. How does this make you feel to be in this dominant position? Will you finally start making fun of the last two Swedes remaining?
It will be extremely strange to see fnatic under a danish flag, and I think it's funny that the danes are dominating fnatic now. I try to be nice to my teammates but I'm sure they're going to listen to us danes a little bit more, and I'll make sure that us danes wont get bullied! ;)
Is there any special motivation to play vs SK in your new team right now, or you've had enough of "revenge" in beating them at FCL?
Beating SK comfortably online isn't really much of a "revenge", even though it always feels nice to win. It is more embarrassing for them losing to a "small" team like us, but I don't give it much thought. There has always been rivalry between fnaticRC and SK so it would be fun to play against them on lan. But I don't really care about proving myself, because I know I'm the best ; )
That's the spirit! Any final shoutouts?
Would just like to thank fnaticRC for bringing me in, and wish eSrael the best of luck in the future! GO FNATIC!
FnaticRaidCall Counter-Strike is:
Richard "Xizt" Landström (C) Michael "Friis" Jørgensen Martin "trace" Heldt Finn "karrigan" Andersen Andreas "MODDII" Fridh
I attended more than 70 tournaments, 90% of them were international ones. While I was on it, I managed to take more than 150 000 photos, compose 150+ interviews, 200+ articles, 7 000+ news items.
I worked for all major e-sport portals in Russia and...
Well, no more "fanatic" cheering from me! As I can't really feel that a "Danish" team is a home for me. As in any sport the Scandinavian countries have a long known rivalry.
So this is a mater of pride before anything else, even logics. So this is the goodbye from at least me!
I am actually sad to see fnatic go from being a swedish team to now a danish team. Fnatic has almost allways been a swedish cs 1.6 team so why couldnt u guys find a swedish player that could take gux spot. there are so many good swedish semi pros that hasnt jumped from team to team. where is the lojalty at?
Welcome Martin, good to have another Dane in the team. :)
PS.
Somebody should edit MODDI's player description, as it says: "MODDII is also one of the best players in pistol rounds along with GuX, so now we have those covered as well. "
Gux doesn't play anymore, so this part should be deleted I guess.
what about think before say that buhu fnatic is not swedish anymore. it was 4 danish guys before gux left and its 4 danish still. (Xizt the only swede)
Offcourse it's weird to chance the Teamflag, but for me Trace is a logical replacement. his style is so good and i think he's one of the few people (maybe a few sk-players) who could replace Gux the way it should. Wether he is Danish, or Swedish, or even Dutch. Fnatic C.S team will for the most people allways stay an Swedish team.
Warning!
