Esports Future - Mina

by eckomonster on May 9th, 2006 at 18:54 CEST

Today we would like to present you another feature, simply called "Esports Future". This interview series throws an eye on Team-Manager's which are still unknown in the International gaming scene. The first episode is about a young and talented girl from Team-Speedlink`s Call of Duty 2 squad, flag Romina is 19 years old and works for the ESBL. Enjoy the read.

Hey Romina, would you mind introducing yourself first of all?
Hey Alex, my name is Romina (as you already mentioned).
I was born in the northern part of Germany, but meanwhile I live in Frankfurt/Main, which is in the federal state Hessen.
I cohabit with my fiancé and I really got a great job so far, working for the ESBL - WLES (eSports Bundesliga) as their Marketing Assistant. My private life is really confined at the moment, since i have to work 10 hours a day, taking care of two teams (which isn't always that easy). But anyways I love to party sometimes, watching a movie etc..
Tell us more about your everyday life.
General speaking, there\'s not really something special to mention. I start working at 8 in the morning, until 18.30 - which is really assuaging.
The first thing I do back home is relaxing for at least one hour. - which works by playing Counter-Strike or listening to music. In the evenings, I usually take care of my teams.

How did you get into the Esports Scene? And what or who did influence
your decission to work in the Electronic Business?

That is simply my partners fault. He has already been involved in Esports when we met each other. I always thought, that this was only some bullshit, boring stuff you know. He was playing Counter-Strike from time to time, when i did visit him and one of his friends came over to play versus each other through the Local Area Network. After complaining, that they always play this crap - he finally said "Well now it's your turn, and no excuses". I had no choice, so i did what he told me to. For heavens sake, I've been so lame. That must have happened in 2003.

In the meantime i think that this has been a great step. The electronic sport grows day by day and Iam really happy to be a part of this.

Did you ever imagine to get ahead that far, or did you even plan it?

I didn't really care about how deep i would be into esports, as long as I had some fun. I didn\'t plan to be involved in one of the best Call of Duty 2 teams. I am self-critical when it's about being successful, so i didn\'t expect all this.

How important is Esports for you?
Nowdays it is really important for me, because i think that this is a big part of our future. I work in an esports league and i got two teams to take care of.. there's really no other choice, than saying that Esports is important.

Why did you team up with Team-Speedlink after departing Ocrana?

Being kicked from Ocrana, felt like a smack in the face. After thinking about what to do and which clan we could join we started to contact several teams. Amongst other things we also asked Fnatic PTY LTD, but they defeated our offer. We had a lot of meetings with other teams and we received the biggest offer from Speedlink. The ambience within the whole clan is pretty familial. I must say that the whole CoD2 squad is pretty happy with the decission to team up with Team-Speedlink and we still celebrate our Call of Duty prosperities.

Who\'s your favourite Esports person in general?
Tough one ;). There isn't really anyone. I respect the people I know, those who are special.

What's your opinion about the role of female gamers and their reputation?

Well, the female players are mostly being used for Promotion reasons. But they don't really care. That is one reason why i wouldn't join a female-team as gamer. I play because its fun for me and i want to achieve something. I don\'t want to motivate others to buy our sponsors' stuff, by shaking my butt all day long. I think this is how 90% of the female esports scene works like. But I do hope that things will change sooner or later, that girls will get the same acceptation as their male buddies receive.

Where do you see yourself within the next 5 years?
I can't and I don\'t really want to think about that. I don't think that i will be taking care of the CoD 2 team from Team-Speedlink then. The guys grow older and will surely be fed up with playing CoD or other games. Of course I'll try to reach something within the scene but I am a Family Guy - well we shall see.

Do you sometimes receive love letters or messages from foreigners?
Only from you Alex. No, I already received some unethical offers, but they mostly conjure a smile upon my face.

Which team or organisation would you like to join?

I am perfectly happy at the moment. An international team would be quite interesting for me, maybe a swedish or an american one, but this isn't an available option right now. And I don't really want to work my ass of for this target, because I simply got no time.

You are the first person being interviewed for this feature, which
is called "Esports Future". Are you going to fill anouc's shoes one day?

I don't want to replace someone or fill someone's shoes. To be honest, I don\'t know anouc, but it seems that she indicated directions for the female gaming scene, which I really respect. I rather stay in the background. I prefer to support my players, instead of being in the spotlight. Also I love to play, but i favour to see my team in action. Oh by the way, I am really happy to be the first, being interviewed for this new feature.

Why dont you tell us a story about your career, the ambience in
several countries and at all kinds of events?

Hmm, that's not really easy for me. My "career" luckily proceeds in the background, at least I didn't have to free myself from groupies or autograph hunters. I only have been in the Netherlands so far, but maybe I'm going to see some more places this or next year. All events i have seen yet, have been really great. What else can I say, Esports keeps growing.

Feel free to salute the world and thanks for your time ;).
Thanks to you =). I would like to greet my two teams: Team-Speedlink.CoD2 and diGNIFIED.iNcrease (CS 1.6). Those are the coolest teams by far. And of course i also greet those two teams in general. Furthermore i thank my cute darling and some more greetings to: ph0s, f1re, the LTG family and last but not least: the Fnatic community and it's team. Thanks a lot.
