After seeing that there a lot of people within the Fnatic Community that would like to know more about the settings our Counter-Strike players use and are hungry for tips and tricks we decided to give you what you deserve.
Harley 'dsn' Örwall, Fnatic's CS Captain, has written a short article about the different aiming and shooting styles. He also recorded a small aiming-demo to go along with it to help visualise what he says.
M4A1 - The Burst:
Bursting is probably the most used Colt-technique together with
spraying. The standard burst is 3 bullets, and it’s pretty easy to learn. The
important thing here is really timing; unlike the railgun in Quake, you can
actually shoot directly after you’ve bursted (there’s no delay), but the recoil
would be really messed up, so you need to figure out how much time it takes for
the recoil to go down and burst accordingly. You have to be somewhat rhythmic
and calm, and the obvious – aim at the head.
M4A1 - The Burning Death:
The name of this technique comes from the old CS-player
Burning Death. In the CS-movie Frag or Die you can see him use a quite
controversial (at the time) AK-handling, firing single bullets in a fast pace.
Since then, the BD-style of handling AK has become really popular, but it’s
also really useful to fire single bullets in a fast pace with colt. The best
time to use this is when you have somebody on lockdown, preferably with their
back towards you, in a somewhat medium to long distance. The reason for not
bursting in a situation like that would be because you don’t really want to
risk missing your burst, and by shooting single bullets fast, you’ll keep him
“bobbed” (meaning he will experience being shot at and have a hard time
shooting back, the game works that way), which is a really good thing for you.
M4A1 - The Spray:
Spraying is something often used, especially on LAN when the bullets
“hit” much better than online. You really need to be able to master spraying good
if you want to become a good player. It’s effective to stop rushes with, when
you can predict multiple opponents coming out from the same area, being pretty
close to each other. It’s also good when you’re able to catch your opponent
flashed or reloading in a favourable position for you. So, now you know that
when a situation like that arises, just push down your +attack button as hard
as you can and make sure to use your crosshair to aim. When spraying, and using
medium or large crosshair, make sure that you always start aiming at the head
and compensate with the upper line of your crosshair. A lot of top players are
aiming towards the chest instead of the head, and there’s really no logic
behind doing so. When you’re a top player, you should always try to aim at the
head, unless you know that your opponent is low in health points and you just
need to do the last damage.
M4A1 - The Forest-burst:
This is something that makes f0rest pretty unique. From what
I’ve observed, he is using a burst with 5 bullets instead of 3 sometimes, which
can be quite effective to make sure that your opponent really dies. This
f0rest-burst is kind of hard to master, so you need to work on it a lot.
AK47 - The Burning Death:
Read the section about BD for colt. It’s pretty much the same here;
you take advantage of the fact that the AK is much more accurate
when shooting one bullet at a time, and you’re keeping your opponent
“bobbed”. This is pretty much the best option in medium to long range
duels and you really need to know how to master it flawlessly.
AK47 - The Burst:
Bursting with AK does a lot more damage than bursting with colt, but
is also a little harder due to different recoils on the weapon. I prefer to use
the “burning death” with AK, but you really need to have the burst in your
arsenal as well. When you watch demos you probably don’t even realise how
profitable it can be to burst in some situations.
AK47 - The Spray:
Spraying with AK is really hard, and I probably use it a lot of LAN
when getting nervous, even though I’m not an expert sprayer. Anyway, I think
that it’s good to spray when you’re opponent is flashed, and you’re kind of
stuck on a position and want to move, but at the same time kill him. If you
would go for the burst, you would have to stand still, due to the fact that the
bullets wouldn’t go straight forward otherwise. When spraying though, you can
pretty much be sure to kill him even if running and that allows you to change
position and kill your opponent. It’s also good to spray against ecos and
through walls, when you’re not risking being shot at, because AK makes a lot of
damage and you really need to make sure to know where to spray to make damage at
your opponents early in the rounds just by predicting their positions.
USP:
With USP, I prefer shooting quite slowly, as shown in my movie. The reason
for that is because the bullets just hit so much better when shooting in a slow
pace. The only time for me not do so is when I’m in a situation when I know that
my opponent is low on health points. The reasons for preferring to shoot fast
when my opponent is low are simple: I’m going for a quick kill and I’m not risking
getting bobbed myself.

Nice article.
You call it "bobbed," I call it "stunned," either way it sucks! :) In your next article, please tell me how to compensate when being "bobbed" by someone else. Rages me more than be insta headshotted. I like quake because your accuracy is not affected when you are being hit.
