From 13-15th August 2009, the FnaticMSI Counter-Strike 1.6 team will be participating in the WCG Sweden 2009 tournament to earn a chance to play at the Grand Finals.
Eight teams, including FnaticMSI, will be participating in the tournament with four teams receiving direct invites whilst the other four teams will have to go through a set of pre-qualifiers in order to play at the main qualifier to earn a trip to the WCG Grand Finals 2009.
Unlike like year, WCG Sweden 2009 will be played in a Single Elimination Best-of-Three format meaning that there will be no second chances if you lose against another team.
The winner of the tournament won't have to pay a penny to travel to the Grand Finals in Chengdu, China whilst the runner-up will have to pay for themselves or face disqualification.
For the build-up to WCG Sweden 2009, we will be interviewing a few of the boys to get their thoughts and opinions on the tournament as well as to see if they can continue their impressive dominance since the start of the year which has seen them take home 4 titles so far.
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund
1. You've taken home another e-STARS title for the third consecutive time, how do you feel?
It feels wonderful! For cArn, dsn and f0rest is must feel even better for them and I don't think its common in eSports that a team wins an event for the third time in a row!
2. Would you say you've had better preparation than some of the other teams heading into this qualifier due to the fact that you played in Korea?
It depends, some teams weren't there like H2k (Lemondogs) so they have probably been watching our games and know our playstyle, but I can honestly say that we got some things that no-one is ready for!
3. What are your expectations on this qualifier?
To win it, of course!
4. cArn mentioned in an interview with djWHEAT that despite Fnatic's dominance over the years and with all the accolades the team have been awarded, WCG is the title they've never managed to grab a hold of, why do you think this is?
I think it's one of our big targets this year to win WCG2009 because ESWC and CPL aren't around anymore so this is the tournament we really want to win and it's also good to play at WCG as a Counter-Strike player.
5. The team is looking stronger than ever, do you feel that this is the year where you guys will be able to finally able to go to China and bring home the gold?
I hope so, I really want to go to China and bring gold back to FnaticMSI and Sweden, of course :).
6. The qualifier format has changed to single elimination best-of-three, does this affect your chances of qualifying for the Grand Finals and how will you combat it?
I don't think it will affect us at all because I think the rest of the teams think like myself -- that we are better in a best-of-three model than in a group stage etc.
7. You'll be boot-camping before the tournament and we know that Fnatic like to try out new tactics so will you be trying out anything new before to make sure you qualify?
Like I've said, we've got things that no-one has ever seen before :).
8. What 2 teams do you think will qualify for the Grand Finals in China?
I don't know really, FnaticMSI and.... SK or H2k. I think H2k have got a big chance to win againt SK because of SK's line-up changes etc, but who knows? We will see on Friday!
9. What would it mean to you if you did finally manage to win WCG?
It will mean a lot to win a big tournament like WCG and maybe it can be a golden year - we will see :).
10. Any last words?
Thanks for the support that we get from FnaticMSI with our sponsors MSI, SteelSeries, Bestpoker and UGAME and the support from our fans - it means a lot for us!
