The ESL has officially confirmed the fourth season of the Extreme Masters. The first Global Challenge takes place at gamescom in Cologne, Germany from August 19th to 23rd. Additionally to Counter-Strike and World of Warcraft, Quake Live has surprisingly been announced as third discipline. The season kicks off with a Counter-Strike Super Cup which features some of the world´s best teams: FnaticMSI, mTw, SK-Gaming and mousesports.

The Gamescom will also be the venue for a World of Warcraft Global Challenge and a Quake Live Pro/Am Challenge. Altogether $21,000 will be battled for at the event which takes place from August 19th to 23rd.

At least six events will be held during the season, consisting of Continental Finals, Global Challenges in 2009 and the World Championship in 2010. A total of 35 countries from five different continents will be featured in Extreme Masters Season IV, with a total of $500,000 prizemoney being up for grabs.
