Evil Geniuses are set to attend the Electronic Sports World Cup 2008 Grand Final in San Jose, California after receiving an invitation to play in the Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament.
Having represented the United States at the KODE5 Global Final 2007 in Moscow, Russia, EG were unable to qualify for ESWC due to conflicting dates between the two competitions.
It appeared EG had missed their chance to make an appearance at San Jose but with a slight change of heart from the ESWC USA Head Admins, the team will be attending the event.
"Well, we had a very rough experience in the ESWC online qualifier; I don't want to get into the details, but as everyone knows, we were forfeited out of the qualifier while representing the USA in Moscow at KODE5," commented Alex "chibsquad" Garfield, manager of Evil Geniuses.
"We didn't feel this was fair, and after the qualifier we submitted a grievance to the Head Admin for ESWC USA as well as the ESWC Organizing Committee in France.
"Last week, we were offered a berth, and graciously accepted it. We feel that ESWC made the right decision in this case and are very grateful to both the folks in France as well as those in the US for offering us this opportunity," Garfield concluded.
There are now in total four North American Counter-Strike 1.6 teams attending the ESWC 2008 Grand Final in San Jose, California which is set to take place between 25-27th August 2008.
