German World Cyber Games (WCG) National Finals 2008 taking place at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany from August 23-24th 2008 with more than 300 attendes fighting for the chance to represent Germany at the WCG Grand Finals.

The players are competing in 14 games overall including Counter-Strike 1.6, Warcraft III, FIFA 2008 and Starcraft Broodwar with the hole tournament being played using a double elimination system. Only the winner of the Counter-Strike tournament is qualified for the Grand final while it is sufficient to place top-3 in all other games to be allowed attending the Grand Final.

Counter-Strike

Reigning German EPS champion mousesports decided not to attend, thus top seeded Team Alternate was expected to win the Counter-Strike qualifier and they did, beating TBH.eSports 16:05 on de_dust2 in the Grand Final. Although they did not have to face their biggest German rival mousesports, Team Alternate seemed to be in good shape and will now move on to San Jose, California, USA for the ESWC Grand Final to match with the elite of Counter-Strike teams.

Warcraft III

The Warcraft III tournament is not over yet with six players remaining. Absolute favourite is 16-year old undead-player Daniel 'XlorD' Spenst, as both Dennis 'HasuObs' Schneider and Daniel 'miou' Holthuis cannot attend due to the ESWC Grand Final. The Warcraft III Grand Final is scheduled to start at 13:30 CET on August 24th 2008.

Update: Daniel 'XlorD' Spenst beats Heinrich 'S.o.K.o.L.' Rennert and wins the German WCG Warcraft III Qualifier. Tim 'HLA' Gebel places third.

About WCG Grand Finals

For the first time, the WCG Grand Finals will be held in Cologne, Germany. Over 700 players from approx. 74 countries are expected to attend this huge event from November 5-9th 2008.
