Each year in the month of August, athletes, journalists, developpers and teams will have the possibility to attend the most prestigious award in eSports, the eSports Award. As always, the ceremony will be held in Leipzig and only the best in their categories will have the chance to receive the convoted trophy.

The final winners are determined by a jury and the community will also be able to vote for the following awards; eSports Game of the Year, Best eSports Coverage and Best Scene Journalist. Last year, there were only seven categories, five have been added this year which are; Best Hardware, Lifetime Achievement, Best Scene Journalist, FPS Duel Player award and eSports Game of the Year.

GotFrag.com asked Alex "MadDog" Albrecht about the changes for this year and also about the event, here's a snippet:

Can you explain the process from nomination to winning an award? If I played in a tournament, how would I get nominated and, then if I was so lucky, to win an award? To be nominated you have to show an extraordinary performance in one or even more of the events which will be announced by the eSports Award jury really soon. This is not just based on stats but also on your professional appearance and personal development. Close to the actual eSports Award ceremony at the Games Convention 2007 a jury of experts will vote on the nominations. Last year Michael "carmac" Blichardz, your very own Trevor "midway" Schmidt or Lam Hua host of the ESWC were part of the jury. This year jury will be organized a bit differently so stay tuned for that announcement.
