Following our incredible ‘remontada’ in the LEC Spring Split, we is today collaborating with creative motion specialist Territory Studio (Ready Player One/Avengers: Infinity War & Endgame/Blade Runner 2049/Ghost in the Shell/Guardians of the Galaxy) to create digital holograms of our League of Legends team to celebrate our historic comeback after a disastrous start to the new LEC season.

Bwipo, Broxah, Nemesis, Rekkles, Hylissang and YoungBuck come are brought to life using sophisticated augmented reality, which brings each player a step closer to Fnatic’s global army of fans. Fnatic is always seeking innovative new ways to enhance the viewing experience for fans and engage with them away from the competitive stage.

For this activation, Territory Studio combines its vision of aesthetics and hologram design with Fnatic’s enthusiasm to innovate. Territory Studio’s unique design and flair for merging digital content with the real world has enabled Fnatic to offer a unique proposition to its fans. Territory Studio’s digital holograms, combined with Sketchfab’s AR technology will enable Fnatic fans to place their favourite players in their room, in a moody scene or take a virtual selfie with them.

It's a first for us and in addition, be running a creative competition for fans that will enable them to win unique 3D printed statues of their favourite esports heroes.

Benoit Pagotto, Brand Director, Fnatic said, “As Fnatic’s players evolve between their personas in real life and masterfully incarnate their favourite champions in game, we wanted to portray our pros as demi-gods, living between the virtual and real world. We are starting to play with new visual narratives as the team and championship evolves while offering new ways for our fans to connect with the Fnatic players. The chance to collaborate with Territory Studios on this was too good to miss, and I love what we’ve been able to create. Our fans stuck by the team when they needed it the most and the team repaid that faith. Now it’s our turn to give back to the fans.”

Territory Studio’s co-founder and executive creative director, David Sheldon-Hicks said: “It’s been an amazing ride to create these holographic heroes for Fnatic. Esports is such a fast-moving phenomenon and it’s a real privilege to be pushing the boundaries of visual narratives in this space. We’re excited to follow the playoffs and look forward to seeing these demi-gods in action!”

Sketchfab quote: “Esports fans are unique in the way they want to interact with their favourite teams. It’s an industry we’ve paid close attention to for a while, and Fnatic time and time again prove why their fanbase is so huge across the globe - it’s all about their fans and bridging the gap to the pros. Leveraging the 3D medium and virtual portraits is a great way to do so. We’ve loved working closely with Fnatic again and Territory Studios to make this a success.

More news concerning the augmented reality Sketchfab files will be coming soon.
